Injection Time

The injection time referred to here is the time required for the plastic melt to fill the cavity, excluding auxiliary times such as mold opening and closing. Although the injection time is very short and has little impact on the molding cycle, adjusting the injection time plays a significant role in controlling the pressure of the gate, runner, and cavity. Reasonable injection time facilitates ideal melt filling and is crucial for improving the surface quality of the product and reducing dimensional tolerances.

Injection time is much shorter than cooling time, approximately 1/10 to 1/15 of the cooling time. This rule can serve as a basis for predicting the total molding time of plastic parts. In mold flow analysis, the injection time in the analysis results equals the injection time set in the process conditions only when the melt is entirely pushed by screw rotation to fill the cavity. If screw holding pressure switching occurs before the cavity is filled, the analysis result will be greater than the set process condition.
